BIRD SPECIES
OBSERVED AT
GOVARDHAN GARDENS

&
IN PUERTO RICO

UPDATE 2019 (64 SPECIES)

There are at least 64 bird species residing at or
visiting Govardhan Gardens on a regular basis.

Many of the hundreds of tropical fruit species
at the farm were planted to support the avian community.

In order to bring these species "alive", I added links
to photographs that were taken at
Govardhan Gardens and around the island.

If you want to read about the ecological importance of
birds, please see the following link: "A Bird Manifesto "

Please contact me in case you would like to
support Govardhan Garden's bird sanctuary.

I am currently also investigating options to start
a private bird sanctuary in the southwest of
Puerto Rico. Please contact me if you would
like to support this important project.

I am also happy to go birding with anyone -
just give me enough advance notice.

Since I have studied hundreds of species and looked at tens of thousands of bird photos over the past few years, I am offering help to beginning birders in PR with bird image identification.

Below this list of birds observed at Govardhan Gardens
you will find a second list of additional species
photographed around the island
(another 200+ species).

Over 360 species of birds have been observed
around the island. 17 of these species are endemic,

In 2017, I was able to set a new record of species seen and documented within one year in Puerto Rico: 228. If you are interested to go on birding trips in the western half of PR, feel free to contact me.

I hope you will enjoy the links to pictures of these additional

My New Book: Oro Verde - Securing the Furture of Our Food

Gold or money has become the standard benchmark of success in our society. Ironically, the pursuit of this type of temporary wealth has primarily led to the exploitation of humans, animals, plants and natural resources in general.

Sadhu Govardhan is an independent thinker, ecological farmer, tropical rare fruit connoisseur, researcher and agricultural consultant. Extensive journeys for over twenty years have allowed him to study indigenous cultures and different life styles throughout the world.

His first publications on philosophical and spiritual topics were published in Europe and translated into several languages. He now lives in Puerto Rico and has dedicated himself to researching and growing tropical food crops and promoting alternative farming methods. He is currently involved with consultant work and inspiring and developing educational organic role model projects in the Caribbean.
